Chinese Song Dynasty Henan Glazed Stoneware Bowl (AD 960 - 1279)
This stoneware bowl was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) at one of the workshops in Henan or Hebei province in the north of China. It is quite "heavily-potted" and coated in a thick glossy glaze, ranging from brown to black according to its thickness. The glaze covers the interior of the bowl but falls short of the base on the exterior revealing the pale creamy-coloured stoneware body.
It is quite a large bowl with a diameter of 19 cm (7.5 inches). It is in very good condition; although there is some surface wear, most noticeably to an area around the bowl's centre, there is no repair or restoration.
