Small Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Box - Peach
This small blue & white porcelain box dates to the 16th century. The underglaze blue decoration features a peach, representing marriage as well as being a symbol of immortality and springtime. The inner surface is also glazed; the flat base remains unglazed.
Diameter 4.5 cm. There is a chip to the lower part, clearly a result of a firing fault; there is no repair or restoration.
This item is part of a recently acquired old English collection comprising mostly Ming Dynasty blue & white porcelain but also including a few earlier celadons and some South-East Asian ceramics.
