Fine Vietnamese 15th Century Blue & White Jar & Cover
This attractively-shaped small covered jar was made during the 15th century. It is "heavily-potted" and decorated in underglaze blue, the pattern featuring scrolling floral and lotus leaf patterns. Sitting upon the unglazed mouth opening is its small cover. Although the cover is certainly of the same antiquity as the jar, the colour of its glaze does vary very slightly from that of the jar so we cannot be certain it is the original cover for this particular jar. Height 8 cm. It is in fine condition with no repair or restoration.
Items such as this were, and still are, much revered amongst devotees of the tea ceremony. This particular item for sale is from a private collection of fine quality Vietnamese 15th century blue & white ceramics we acquired last year.
