Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Sheep (AD 618 - 906)
This pottery model of a sheep, or ram, was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It has been made in a two-piece mould from a relatively high-fired grey pottery. On the surface are traces of its original "cold painted" creamy-white pigment. It is in good condition; there is some surface wear but there is no sign of any restoration or repair. Length 13.5 cm (5.5 inches).
