Fine Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Covered Box - Kangxi (1662 - 1722)
This attractive and fine quality blue & white porcelain covered box was made during the Kangxi reign (1662 - 1722) of the Qing Dynasty. Both cover and box are skillfully and elaborately decorated in underglaze blue featuring a scrolling chrysanthemum pattern, the chrysanthemum being an emblem of friendship..
It is large example of its type with a diameter of 10.5 cm (4 inches). There is small "nibble" to the inner edge of the box and a small surface firing fault to the base. This box has been excavated from a shipwreck yet is in fine condition with no repair or restoration; a very nice example.
