LARGE Chinese Warring States Impressed Pottery Jar (475 - 221 BC)
This large and impressive pottery jar was made during the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). It is made from a fine-grained grey pottery and has a smooth burnished surface. Around its middle are two bands of impressed decoration. To the lower body are white "calcified" deposits from its long burial.
Height 46 cm (18 inches), diameter 44 cm (17.25 inches). Although not immediately obvious, there are several repairs to surface chips which are surely excusable in view of this jar's great age and size!
