Thai 14th - 15th Century Sukhothai Underglazed Jar
This wide-bodied and heavily-potted stoneware jar was made during the 14th - 15th centuries at one of the Sukhothai kilns. The body is coated in a white slip. The shoulder is decorated with a scrolling pattern enclosed between parallel bands in underglaze iron-brown. There is a small flat spot to the side.
This is quite a large example of its type: diameter 13 cm (5 inches), height 12 cm (4.75 inches). Perhaps not the most attractive example of its type, but of good form and just a couple of minor chips to the base edge; no restoration or repair.
