Rare Vietnamese 13th - 14th Century Glazed Stoneware Jar
This rare and attractively-shaped jar was made during the 13th - 14th century. It is coated both inside and out in a finely-crackled translucent olive-green glaze. The thickness of the glaze varies; inside the glaze has pooled and there are thick runs toward the flat unglazed base. Decoration is provided by one simple incised line around the shoulder and two small loop handles. There is minor flaking of the glaze around the rim edge and to one handle, where the glaze is at its thinnest and some kiln scars. The jar does not stand perfectly straight which, in our opinion, is part of its appeal! Height 9 cm (3.5 inches).
