Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Bowl – Tek Sing Shipwreck c.1822

This bowl was recovered from the Tek Sing shipwreck, the cargo of which was sold at Nagel’s auctioneers in Germany in 2000. The underglaze blue decoration covering almost the entire surface is quite elaborate, including in its center, a very well-executed spiral pattern. It is relatively “heavily-potted” and its surface has a nice “silky” feel to it.

The majority of recovered shipwreck ceramics will of course have some degree of wear / damage / chips etc.. This, however, is an exceptional example in very good condition with just a very small chip to the glaze on the underside edge of the rim. Diameter 16 cm (6.25 inches). No repair or restoration.
