Chinese Enamelled White Porcelain Bowl – Tek Sing Shipwreck c.1822

This bowl was recovered from the Tek Sing shipwreck, the cargo of which was sold at Nagel’s auctioneers in Germany in 2000. It is relatively “heavily-potted” and its surface has a nice “silky” feel to it. It is coated in a finely-crackled glaze. It was once elaborately decorated with red and green enamels, only traces of which now remain.

The majority of recovered shipwreck ceramics will of course have some degree of wear / damage / chips etc.. This, however, is in very good condition with no repair or restoration and just a tiny chip to the lower rim edge. Diameter 16 cm (6.25 inches).
