Thai 14th - 15th Century Sawankhalok Covered Box
This stoneware box was made during the 14th - 15th centuries at one of the Sawankhalok kilns. The finial of the cover is of lotus bud form. The underglaze decoration features a floral scrolling pattern around the box with geometric patterns on the cover. The surface is coated in a finely-crackled translucent greenish-blue glaze.
Diameter 9.5 cm (3.75 inches). In places, where at its thinnest, the glaze has degraded. There are a couple of very small surface chips to the flat edge of the mouth of the cover, quite insignificant. There is no repair or restoration.
