Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Bowl - Buddhist
This porcelain bowl with flared rim was made during the 16th century. The pattern, in underglaze blue of good colour, around the outer wall features a scrolling floral pattern interspersed with Buddhist symbols including the lotus flower, a symbol of purity and perfection. The centre design is the peony, a symbol of riches, honour, affection, love and beauty.
This bowl is a little misshapen, its maximum diameter being 16.5 cm (6.5 inches). Although it is free from restoration or repair, there is an old hairline crack to the wall that has become stained over time.
