Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Glazed Stoneware Jar - Shipwreck
This wide but shallow stoneware jar was made during the 13th - 14th century. The outer surface is coated in a finely-crackled yellowish-brown glaze, save for the flat base that remains unglazed, revealing the pale grey body. It has been recovered from a shipwreck and sea-growths still adhere to the unglazed inside surface.
Diameter 10.5 cm (4 inches). There is surface wear and two cracks that spread across the shoulder, although the jar is perfectly stable and is free from restoration or repair.
