Korean 19th Century Blue & White Porcelain Covered Jar (Choson)
This "heavily-potted" jar was made in the 18th / 19th century, during the late Choson Dynasty. Unusually, this jar still has its original cover. Both inner and outer surfaces are coated in a thick glaze with minimal underglaze blue decoration on opposing sides of the shoulder, and on the top of the cover, the colour of the blue varying, according to its thickness. There is kiln grit embedded in the glaze around the foot. To the underside of both the jar and the cover is an old collection, possibly museum, inventory number; regretfully we do not know what this number relates to.
Diameter 12 cm (4.75 inches). Both jar & cover are in fine condition with no restoration or repair.
