Chinese Yuan Dynasty Junyao Dish (AD 1279 - 1368)
This stoneware dish was made during the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368). It is quite "heavily-potted" and a little warped. It is coated in a thick and finely-cracked Jun glaze that has produced very attractive colours. Where the glaze is at its thinnest, on the inner and outer walls and around the inner ridge, it has fired to a very dark greenish-black. However, at its thickest, where it has pooled within the dish and where it has sagged on the underside, it has fired to a variety of blues with a hint a purple in places. The unglazed base and thick foot have fired to a yellowish-brown.
Diameter 14.5 cm (5.75 inches). There are a couple of insignificant defects to the glaze at the rim edge, a tiny area where the glaze has flaked, and a short surface hairline, both hardly noticeable. Overall it is in fine condition with no restoration or repair.
