Chinese Sui / Early Tang Dynasty Glazed & Painted Pottery Figure
This pottery figure was made during the Sui Dynasty (AD 581 - 618) or the early part of the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a relatively high-fired creamy-white pottery and is coated in a thin pale yellow/straw glaze. This figure is particularly finely-modelled; note the detail to the face and the clothing. The detail has further been emphasized by "cold painted" pigments on top of the glaze to the face, headgear and sleeves, traces of which still remain. Much of the glaze, however, has degraded through long burial and in places has acquired a silvery iridescence.
Height 19.5 cm (7.5 inches). It is in very good condition with no sign of restoration or repair.
