Chinese 17th Century Vung Tau Shipwreck Dish (Ex. Christie's)
This blue & white porcelain dish was recovered from the "Vung Tau" shipwreck, dated to c. 1690. It is quite "heavily-potted". The underglaze blue design features a boatman and a riverside landscape. Around the outside of the foot in black is written the inventory number from when it was recovered from the shipwreck.
Diameter 12 cm. It is in good overall condition with just some minor "nibbling" to the rim edge; it has a good ring when tapped and is free from restoration or repair.
The Vung Tau shipwreck was discovered in 1989 and its recovered cargo of porcelain was sold at Christie's, Amsterdam, in April 1992.
