Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Celadon Glazed Stoneware Bowl
This "heavily-potted" stoneware bowl was made in the 12th - 13th century, during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) or the following Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368), most likely from one of the kilns in Guangdong province where many such wares were made for export to Southeast Asia. It is coated in a pale greenish-grey glaze. There are a few lines of glaze crackle here and there, one of which does penetrate the body. The inner centre remains unglazed as such bowls were stacked inside each in the kiln during firing and this prevented the glaze from fusing them together.
Diameter 15 cm (6 inches). It is in very good condition with minor surface wear and no repair or restoration.
