Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Dish Tek Sing Shipwreck 1822
This dish is from the Tek Sing shipwreck dated to c.1822, the cargo of which was sold at Nagel’s auctioneers in Germany in 2000. The underglaze blue pattern features flowers in a basket. Around the rim is painted an iron wash to prevent "fritting" of the glaze during firing. There is a piece of kiln grit embedded within the glaze at the rim.
Diameter 15 cm. So many dishes from the Tek Sing shipwreck suffered damaged in the form of breaks and/or chips. Although this dish does have some surface wear, it is free from restoration, has no chips or cracks and has a good ring when tapped.
