Chinese Song Dynasty Celadon Bowl (12th / 13th Century)
This bowl was made during the 12th / 13th century. It has a wide unglazed stacking ring. The glaze was no doubt supposed to fire to a green colour, although firing conditions have made the glaze appear a pale greenish-brown and the unglazed parts of the body have fired almost brick-red.
Diameter 16.5 cm (6.5 inches). Overall this bowl is in good condition; there is no restoration or repair, although there are scratches to the glaze on the underside. The stain at the rim edge appears to be iron corrosion, presumably resulting from long burial next to an iron object.
