Large Chinese Warring States Pottery Jar with Inscribed Seal
This large and nicely-shaped pottery jar was made during the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). It is made from a relatively high-fired dense grey pottery. Around the shoulder there are bands of lightly incised geometric patterns. There are also deeper bands surrounding the jar at the neck, lower shoulder and waist. To the lower body is an inscribed seal in archaic Chinese characters. The surface colour of the grey pottery does vary in places, clearly due to uneven conditions in the kiln during firing.
Diameter 25 cm, height 18.5 cm. It is in fine condition and has no restoration or repair.
