Large Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Swatow Porcelain Bowl - Fo Dog

This blue & white "Swatow" (or "Zhangzhou") porcelain bowl was made around the time of the Wanli reign (1573 - 1620) of the Ming Dynasty. The underglaze blue decoration is restricted to inner surface and features, as it centre, a Dog of Fo. Although bowls of this general size with this pattern are fairly well-known, it is rare for such an example to also have a decorative band around the inner rim, in this case a key fret pattern. The glaze is thick and is quite heavily crackled in places.

A good size with a diameter of 20.5 cm (8 inches). There is some "fritting" to the glaze and also some small chips at the rim edge. There is no repair or restoration.
