This fine pair of pottery tiles was made during the Ming Dynasty (AD 1368 - 1644). They are made of a dense grey pottery and have been painted in black pigment. Each tile features, in high relief and in great detail, a phoenix with its wings outstretched and head looking upwards. Mounted and lit well, these tiles make superb decorative items.
The total length when both tiles are placed together is 53 cm (21 inches), height 26.5 cm (10.5 inches). Condition is exceptional. As with almost all ancient pottery tiles, there are minor chips to the edges. In places are the remains of ancient root/plant growths that we always like to see.
For information: these tiles came from a group of tiles, one of which we had TL tested and that TL test certificate is shown here for reference. Please note that neither of these particular tiles has been TL tested, although this can be arranged for an additional fee. Regardless of whether or not any item is TL tested, our guarantee of authenticity without time limit will of course apply.
