Chinese Late Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Jar

This porcelain jar was made during the late 16th or early 17th century, the latter part of the Ming Dynasty (AD 1368 - 1644). It is "heavily potted" and made in two sections, upper and lower, that were luted together, as can be seen when looking inside the jar, prior to glazing and firing. The outer surface has been decorated with a bold underglaze blue floral pattern. The inner surface has also been glazed.

Diameter 18 cm, height 15 cm. A nice example of its type with no restoration or repair; fine condition.

A similar jar from the British Museum illustrated in "Ming Pottery & Porcelain" by Soame Jenyns (London 1953), item 106A, is described as "decorated in underglaze blue under a Yingqing glaze".
