Rare Vietnamese 13th / 14th Century Green Glazed Ribbed Bowl
This rare high-fired porcelaneous bowl was made during the 13th / 14th century. The outer wall is decorated with a carved ribbed pattern and it is coated in a green glaze, the colour of which varies according to its thickness - there are lines of crackle in the glaze in places. The underside base is flat with a slightly recessed centre. To the inside centre is a glaze-free stacking rim, the centre of which was coated with a very thin glaze or wash.
Diameter 16.5 cm (6.5 inches). Condition is good: there is some surface wear to the glaze in places and a small chip to the outer rim edge. There is no restoration or repair and this bowl has a good ring when tapped.
For information: this is one of a group of five Vietnamese bowls we are offering that have come from a private English collection, reported to have been acquired whilst travelling in Vietnam during the mid 1980s.
