This "Swatow" (or "Zhangzhou") blue & white porcelain bowl was made during the mid to late 16th century c.1550-1570. The central design is of a heron standing amongst aquatic plants; around the inner rim is a scrolling blue band. Surrounding the outer wall are ducks in a pond with various aquatic plants. The bowl is coated in a thick crackled glaze that in places has "crawled", revealing the white slip below the glaze. Part of the foot remains unglazed and has fired to a reddish-brown in places.
Diameter 20.5 cm (8 inches). This bowl is in good condition with no repair or restoration.
