This "heavily-potted" bowl with a high foot was made in 19th century, during the late Joseon (Choson) Dynasty (AD 1392 - 1910). It is coated all over in a pale grey glaze, that seems to have just the slightest hint of blue in places. Embedded in the glaze around the foot rim are many pieces of kiln grit.
Diameter 13 cm, height 9 cm. Overall condition is very good; there is minor surface wear in places and four old fine hairlines to part of the wall, yet these cannot be detected by tapping the vessel. There is no repair or restoration.
The vessel comes with a Japanese shifuku (the cloth bag) and a wooden box. This was purchased from Japan some time ago by the late Brian Page.
