Chinese Neolithic Twin-Handled Pottery Jar - Qijia Culture (c. 2050 - 1700 BC)

This attractively-shaped pottery jar was made around 4,000 years ago by peoples of the Neolithic Qijia Culture (c. 2050 - 1700 BC), from what is now eastern Gansu province, China. It is quite thinly-potted and made from a reddish pottery, the surface colour of which varies in places. There are two "strap" handles joined at the waist and mouth edge. The surface is finely burnished giving it a very smooth feel to the touch making it a real pleasure to handle as well as to view.

Height 12 cm (4.75 inches). This is an exceptional example in fine condition with no sign of restoration or repair.

For information: this example is from our extensive collection of Chinese Neolithic pottery and was acquired in the 1990s when such items were more readily available. In our last image we show other examples that we are selling separately. These have not previously been offered for sale.
