This large and impressive pottery vessel was made some 2,000 years ago during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). It is made from a red pottery and coated in an amber glaze that has a silvery sheen to it. This vessel is a granary and its top part represents a two-tiered tiled roof. The long body is simply decorated with two bands of incised lines, and stands on three sturdy feet moulded into the form of bears.
This granary is similar to other large amber-glazed granaries excavated from a tomb in Xi'an dating to the short-lived Xin Dynasty (AD 9 -25).
This is a large and substantial vessel with a height of 36 cm and weight of 4.5 kg. There are a few minor chips to the edges. No repair or restoration - fine condition.
