SALE Tall Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Qingbai Glazed Porcelain Ewer

This impressive porcelain ewer was made during the latter part of the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) or possibly the following Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368). It is quite "heavily-potted" and coated in a finely-crackled Qingbai glaze, pale green in colour. A thick handle joins the trumpet-shaped mouth to the shoulder. There is insignificant surface wear and there are old genuine gold lacquer ("kintsugi") repairs which have been performed to fill in small chips to the rim and very tip of the spout.

This is quite a large example with a height of 24 cm (9.5 inches). A nice example in very good condition.

For information: this is from the collection of the late Grahame Clarke (1942 - 2014), master potter known for founding two potteries, Highland Stoneware in Lochniver in 1974 and in 1991 Grahame Clarke Porcelain in London, then Norfolk. Well-known for his blue & white porcelain, his work was influenced by 17th century Chinese pottery and porcelain as well as 16th and 17th century Delftware. Grahame was a friend and regular customer of ours for many years. The item for sale here is one of many we are offering from his collection built up over some twenty years prior to his passing. This item previously sold by ourselves in 2008.
