Chinese Southern Song Dynasty Moulded Qingbai Porcelain Vase

This attractive pear-shaped vase was made during the Southern Song Dynasty (AD 1127 - 1279), most likely at one of the kilns in Fujian province. Interestingly it is made in several sections that have been luted together. The mid section is decorated with a scrolling floral pattern. The outer body is coated in a particularly glossy and finely-crackled pale green transparent qingbai glaze. The glaze also extends just into the inner mouth although the actual top of the rim has been wiped clean of glaze. The foot also remains unglazed.

Height 12.5 cm (5 inches). As is so often the case with this type of late Song qingbai ware, the glaze has flaked a little from around the waist. It is in good condition and has no restoration or repair.

From a group of Song to Ming porcelain items we are selling from a distinguished West Country family collection acquired over several decades (see our last image).

For information: very similar examples are illustrated and described in the 1983 Southeast Asian Ceramic Society book "Song Ceramics".
