A colourful twin-handled enamelled “Cochi” stoneware vase, decorated with a ho-ho bird and auspicious Chinese Buddhistic symbols. The colours and slip decoration on these Kyoyaki cochi ceramics were copied in Japan from Ming Chinese fahua prototypes, from the 18th through to 20th centuries. Kyoto, Japan, Meiji Period (1868 – 1912). 21.5cm high, 19cm diameter. Fair condition, a hairline crack to the rim.
