A fine Hirado porcelain kashiki bowl very finely decorated in underglaze blue with boys chasing butterflies under pine trees. This motif became a favorite of Hirado potters from the 18th century, and in fact has its origin in porcelain produced in Jingdezhen for China’s court during the Wanli Period in the 17th century. Provenance: This bowl was exhibited in the exhibition “The Japanese Aesthetic” organised by the Ceramic and Glass Circle of Victoria, in 2006 and 2007. Mark: four character mark “Hirado kasho” in underglaze blue to the base. Origin: Hirado, Japan. Period: Meiji or Taisho Period, circa early 20th Century. Size: 7.4cm high, 21cm diameter. Condition: Fine.
