Ito Tozan I (1846-1920), a fine kyoyaki dish with taro foliage and flowers. A Kyoto Satsuma stoneware dish beautifully and sensitively decorated with taro leaves and pink flowers in overglaze blue, pink and green enamels, the blue bordered in black. The plate is decorated in Ito Tozan I’s strong graphic style, against the classic creamy crackled kyoyaki glaze. Ito Tozan I was the last of only five potters to be appointed as Teishitsu Gigeiin (Imperial Household Artist) in 1917, three years before his death. Mark: three character “Tozan zo” in black enamel to the base. Origin: Kyoto, Japan. Period: Meiji Period (1868–1912), circa 1890s. Size: 18.6cm diameter, 2.75cm high. Condition: good but with some minor stacking wear to the enamel decoration (no loss, just wear) from normal use. SOLD
