A striking double gourd vase with bamboo, Koransha. A fascinating vase showing s stylistic connection with the famed Aesthetic Movement designs of Dr Christopher Dresser of England. It’s in the form of a double gourd, with a naturalistic painting of bamboo outlined in gold, against a rich yellow enamel ground, with a geometric collar around the waist in iron red and gold, by one of the premiere Arita manufacturers of the Meiji Period, Koransha, during the early years of its founding. Mark: hand painted orchid mark for Koransha and three character “Fukagawa tsukuru” mark in iron red to the base. Origin: Arita, Japan. Period: Meiji Period, 1875-1894. Size: 22.5cm high, 9.5cm diameter. Condition: fine, with the exception of some light wear to the gilding around the mouth.
