A reticulated netsuke of a monkey in the guise of a sambaso dancer, in fine underglaze blue and white Hirado porcelain. The monkey’s head and tongue are reticulated, the head able to move left and right and wobble, and the tongue able to extend out of the head. There are two holes for the string so it can be strung as a netsuke at the monkey’s back. Mark: unmarked. Origin: Hirado, Japan. Period: Meiji Period. Size: 5.6cm high, 2.5cm wide. Condition: fine.
