A lustrous stoneware tenmoku chawan (teabowl) with a combination of deep iron brown and kakiyu (persimmon) glazes, with an elegant hand tooled kodai (footrim). Mark: impressed oval seal mark (untranslated) to the side of the footrim. Origin: probably Kyoto, Japan. Period: Late Edo Period, circa mid 19th Century. Size: 13cm diameter, 6cm high. Condition: fine.
