Silk embroidery on a thick indigo-blue cotton ground. In the center is a pair of peacocks and four "rain dragons" in the ground. The border has four phoenixes and eight water dragons. An extremely rare fragment of a large-loom brocade throne carpet. There are 8 borders indicating a high use. Silks like this were made on a large loom and are usually about 8 feet wide. The silk is very thick lampas weave typical of such pieces. The quality of the weaving and design is of the highest level of workmanship, and though it is a fragment, it retains the elegance of its original form.
