This screen is ground with a very fine cinnabar lacquer in various intricately carved geometric designs to indicate the topography. The restrained design is with semi-precious hard stones in an overlay technique including jade, serpentine, lapis lazuli, amethyst, mother-of-pearl, carnelian and agate. The scene depicts cranes and peonies along with decorative rock formations, all which allude to longevity. The top and sides of the screen are carved in hardwood featuring cloud motifs, and a shou medallion is featured in the top center. Republic Period (1936 or earlier). There is a small fissure on one of the panels that dies not detract from the aesthetics of the screen.
