This Japanese travelling shrine or zushi is presided over by an eight armed goddess seated on a lotus throne and populated with fifteen figures, a horse, a cow and a laden cart and boat. The outside of the lacquered case is decorated with ornate gilt brass, whilst the inside is gilded. This large Georgian sterling silver ladle carries the makers mark for Graham and McLean of Glasgow and was assayed in Edinburgh in 1801. This Doulton Burslem jug was issued in 1892 to mark the death of Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892), who was the Poet Laureate from 1850 until his death. On either side of the jug are moulded semi-relief busts of Tennyson on a vellum coloured ground. Made in earthenware it stands 183 mm (7.25 inches) high and has a diameter of 137 mm (5 3/8ths inches). It is in very good condition.

This very pretty hand painted and gilded vase is attributed to Minton, from their "Gothic Pedestal Ornaments" range of the 1830's. It stands 161 mm (6 3/8ths inches) high and features a hand painted spray of flowers, in a gilt frame on an ochre coloured ground, beneath an arcaded rim. It is unmarked. This base of this folding desk top book stand is made of mahogany veneered with rosewood. The fretwork sides are carved from solid rosewood and the piece rests on four cushion shaped feet. It measures 395mm in width, 285mm in depth and is 112mm high. There are a couple of barely noticeable small repairs to the back where the the fretwork has been broken and reglued.
