The outside of this majolica bread plate or tray is encircled with the motto "Eat thy bread with thankfulness". Central to this plate is a representation of a basket which is surrounded by ears of wheat and foliage. It has been used with the central basket showing signs of use, and there are some slightly rough areas to the rim, but just imagine the conversations it has heard over the last 140 or so years. The width is 335 mm (13.25 inches), the depth is 287 mm (11.25 inches) and it stands 45 mm...

This attractive oval majolica plate is decorated with a moulded decoration of overlapping vine leaves on a stippled ground. The piercings in the basketweave rim were done by hand when the clay was in its leather hard stage before firing. The length is 315 mm (12.5 inches) and the width is 245 mm (9.5 inches). The condition is very good apart from the obvious spots on the front where the glaze hasn't taken and some grit from the kiln has settled on the wet glaze. It is possibly by Wedgwood and it...

This serpentine shaped enamel trinket box is attributed to the firm of Samson of Paris. Samson were well known for producing replicas (or fakes if you are feeling less generous) of many items of previous times. The hand painted decoration on this box is done in the style of Eighteenth century enamel ware. The hinge features a protruding lug at the rear to stop the lid opening too far. This is a feature of Samson boxes, something not seen on Eighteenth century English boxes. The width is 135 mm (...

This bronze medal was issued in 1816, to commemorate the bicentenary of William Shakespeare's death. This very pretty hand painted jug by Philipp Rosenthal & Co of Kronach in Germany features two cartouches containing delicate portraits of women on a ground of pale green. One of the portraits is signed with the initials A H L and both cartouches are framed in gold. The griffen shaped handle makes this an interesting piece. It stands 160mm high and its only fault is the slight loss of gilding, mainly to the handle. C 1891-1906. To view this lovely jug in the round, please visit our website- www....
