This lovely first period hand painted Worcester teapot has been decorated on either side with cartouches containing Chinese figures. These cartouches are surrounded by smaller cartouches containing flowers which originally would have been set in a gilded ground, but unfortunately most of the gilding has been worn away. This Doulton Burslem jug was issued in 1892 to mark the death of Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892), who was the Poet Laureate from 1850 until his death. On either side of the jug are moulded semi-relief busts of Tennyson on a vellum coloured ground. This exquisite small ladies purse is formed of moulded tortoiseshell, decorated with inlaid silver and closes on a silver clasp. Inside there are four compartments formed from the aqua coloured watered or moire silk lining. One of the compartments locks using a small latch like arrangement.
