This base of this folding desk top book stand is made of mahogany veneered with rosewood. The fretwork sides are carved from solid rosewood and the piece rests on four cushion shaped feet. This sterling silver handled paper knife features a blade of Mother-of-pearl. Due to the fragility of the blade, these are much rarer than those with more durable blades. Made in Birmingham in 1908, it is in excellent condition, with only a couple of very small nicks in the blade to mar its beauty. Unfortunately my photography skills don't show the blade to its best advantage, but it does possess lovely colour and figure. The whole piece is 255mm long and 20mm wide at the very end of the blade.

A very attractive plate by Minton, very simply decorated with a hand coloured transfer print of a cherub inside a very fine basket weave rim. The diameter is 257mm and it is in very good condition. Date for 1874.
