This Doulton Burslem jug was issued in 1892 to mark the death of Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892), who was the Poet Laureate from 1850 until his death. On either side of the jug are moulded semi-relief busts of Tennyson on a vellum coloured ground. Made in earthenware it stands 183 mm (7.25 inches) high and has a diameter of 137 mm (5 3/8ths inches). It is in very good condition.

This Moorcroft teapot is decorated with the revived cornflower or brown chrysanthemum design on a mottled green ground. It is unsigned but carries two backstamps. The first is the standard McIntyre mark, in brown, and the second is a retailers mark for Townsend & Co Newcastle on Tyne. It measures 136 mm (5 3/8ths inches) in diameter and stands 160 mm (6 3/8ths inches) to the top of the knop. It has some light crazing and 2 very small chips to the inside of the footrim...

Possibly by the Yorkshire factory of Rockingham, this porcelain spill vase has been decorated with gilding and a hand painted scene of two cherubs cavorting on a cloud. The reverse features a spray of two roses and some bluebells. It stands 112 mm (4.5 inches) high, with a diameter of 57 mm (2.25 inches) at the top, whilst the foot has a diameter of 69 mm (2.75 inches). It is in very good condition, but does have some very faint crazing. C 1830.

This cup and saucer by Enoch Wood and Sons is decorated with transfer prints of Faith, Hope and Charity. Faith and Hope are printed either side of the cup and Charity adorns the saucer. There is some loss of paint to the cup rim and there is a shallow chip to the footrim of the saucer. C1818-46.

This Royal Worcester Swan and Nautilus shell vase could also be used as a table centrepiece. The nautilus shell is supported by bullrushes and the swan which sits on flowers and leaves all on a rocky base. This hand coloured Minton oyster plate features six wells for the oysters, as well as a central well and a larger one which would have held sauces, lemon segments or crackers. The six flowers are delicately done in pink and rest on a stippled ground, whilst the outer wells are decorated with faint striped brushstokes of pink and green. Minton produced over twenty models of oyster plates from the late 1860's through to the very early 1900's, and the shape number of this one is 2245...

This fluted milk jug or creamer is by John Rose Coalport and is decorated with a simple repeating pattern painted in puce and purple and connected with gilt ribbons. It is further highlighted with gilding to the rim, foot, handle and the top of the flutes. There are twenty ogee flutes, writhing from left to right and the piece stands 110mm (4.25 inches) high to the top of the handle. It is unmarked but corresponds to a jug shown in Plate 226 of Berthoud's " A Cabinet of British Creamers"...

This large, superbly gilded loving cup, carries on one side, the inscription "Presented by A Friend With Kind regards" and on the other a small four line poem "When this you see remember me, And bear me in your mind, Let all the world say what they will, Speak of me as you find". This very attractive Minton hand painted trio is decorated with their pattern 2297 which consists of three sprays of flowers below a royal blue border. The top and bottom of the border is decorated with gilding in the shape of C scrolls and arabesques. There is also gilding to the handles and the outside of the cups. The cup shape is listed as "A Blenheim". There is some sign of use mainly to the gilding. C 1835.

This very pretty hand painted and gilded vase is attributed to Minton, from their "Gothic Pedestal Ornaments" range of the 1830's. It stands 161 mm (6 3/8ths inches) high and features a hand painted spray of flowers, in a gilt frame on an ochre coloured ground, beneath an arcaded rim. It is unmarked. There is some minor loss of gilding to the rim and some faint scratches to the ground.

A very attractive salt glazed stoneware jug from the Doulton Lambeth factory. It is decorated with a rather uncommon Egyptian theme. A pharaoh's head forms the spout and the wings of Horus spread either side of the base of the handle. These wings and all the figures in the central frieze are what is known as sprigged or sprigging. Clay is pressed into a very shallow mould, gently teased out, and then carefully applied by hand to the body of the jug, before the piece is fired and glazed...
