This Royal Worcester porcelain jug is decorated with a lively hand coloured spray of flowers, embellished with gilding, on a cream ground. There is a smaller spray on the reverse. The jug shape is listed as number 1094, which was introduced in 1885, and came in 6 sizes. The height of this one is 155 mm (6 inches). The reeded handle has suffered some rubbing of the gilding, otherwise it is in very good condition. It carries the date code for 1897.

This Spode lidded broth bowl on stand is decorated with the hand coloured chinoiserie pattern 2117. The bowl has a diameter of 106 mm (4.25 inches) and stands 100 mm (4 inches) high including the lid. The stand or saucer has a diameter of 158 mm (6.25 inches). As to condition, everything is in good shape apart from a crack to the bowl, which can be seen in the photos. Weighed against that, is that this is a reasonably rare item and to have survived together for close to 200 years is remarkable...

This Spode blue and white comport, or footed bowl, would have originally been part of an extensive dessert set. The transfer printed pattern is entitled "Net" and the shape is the "Devonia" shape. It measures 310 mm (12.25 inches) in width, 230 mm (9 inches) in depth and stands 110 mm (4.25 inches) high. The colouring is still quite striking and it is in very good condition apart from a shallow flake taken from the rim and reglued. It measures 18 mm (.75 inch) in length. C 1820.

This wheel thrown mug with a lovely strap handle is decorated with a blue spongeware design of a rooster under a tree. It stands 115 mm (4.5 inches) high and has a diameter at the base of 90 mm (3.75 inches). It has a number of tiny nibbles to its edges and a crack that runs for about 35 mm (1 3/8ths inches) from the rim. It would date from around the middle part of the nineteenth century.

This Doulton Burslem jug was issued in 1892 to mark the death of Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892), who was the Poet Laureate from 1850 until his death. On either side of the jug are moulded semi-relief busts of Tennyson on a vellum coloured ground. Made in earthenware it stands 183 mm (7.25 inches) high and has a diameter of 137 mm (5 3/8ths inches). It is in very good condition.

This Moorcroft teapot is decorated with the revived cornflower or brown chrysanthemum design on a mottled green ground. It is unsigned but carries two backstamps. The first is the standard McIntyre mark, in brown, and the second is a retailers mark for Townsend & Co Newcastle on Tyne. This hand coloured Minton oyster plate features six wells for the oysters, as well as a central well and a larger one which would have held sauces, lemon segments or crackers. The six flowers are delicately done in pink and rest on a stippled ground, whilst the outer wells are decorated with faint striped brushstokes of pink and green. Minton produced over twenty models of oyster plates from the late 1860's through to the very early 1900's, and the shape number of this one is 2245...

A very attractive salt glazed stoneware jug from the Doulton Lambeth factory. It is decorated with a rather uncommon Egyptian theme. A pharaoh's head forms the spout and the wings of Horus spread either side of the base of the handle. These wings and all the figures in the central frieze are what is known as sprigged or sprigging.
