This rare C J Mason porcelain teapot and its stand are decorated with a hand coloured pattern of a basket of flowers to the centre and, around the rim, a hand coloured print of flowers and bamboo. Neither piece is marked, but the teapot corresponds to plate 1842 of Berthoud's "Directory of British Teapots" and to plate 2042 in the same author's "Anthology of British Teapots". The stand has a diameter of 227 mm (9 inches). The teapot stands 155 mm (6 inches) to the thumb rest on the handle and has a diameter of 180 mm (7.25 inches). There are a few small faults- a chip under the spout (ex factory), light crazing, some slightly discoloured areas, a small crack to the inner rim, two pieces of kiln grit and a small firing crack to the knop. C1835.
