Offered is a lovely antique martingale and set of five horse brasses, dating most likely to the late 19th Century or early 20th Century. Each of the brasses is different, and they all appear to be original antique examples. The top brass features a pair of doves; an identical example was sold by Christie's London in December 2006. In order, the themes of the others are a star, a bust of a stag, an armorial of a rooster on a horn, and a fox or wolf head surrounded by smaller fox or wolf heads.
This set and martingale measure about 23 inches long by 3 1/2 inches wide overall. In good overall condition, with some wear where the two martingale sections attach, but no serious issues. The brasses have not been polished in a while, and the backs have significant patina. All in all a lovely example!
