Offered is a lovely and rare Chinese porcelain octagonal saucer, dating to the Kangxi period, circa 1720. It measures about 4 3/8 inches or 11 cm across. While octagonal saucers with this general pattern of panels and blooms are sometimes seen, they are typically in white with the pattern in blue. This appears to be a variant (perhaps for the Islamic market) wherein cobalt blue is the dominant color, reinforced by the comprehensive gilding. Alternatively, the gilding could have been added once the piece reached Europe. Condition of this piece is very good overall, with a couple of tiny fleabites to the rim and some glaze pops to the area inside the foot, but no lines, splits or repairs. All in all a nice example in rare colors!
