Paul Augustin Aizpiri (French, born 1919 -) original watercolor painting of the Grand Canal, Venice, Italy. Watercolor and gouache on paper (affixed to cardboard). Circa 1950s-60s. Painting size: 17.5 inches x 27 inches. An attractive portrayal of the Grand Canal, Venice, with gondolas and the church of Santa Maria della Salute visible on the right. It is signed in the lower right and offered in the original frame, which bears the label of Galerie Paul Petrides, Paris. Petrides maintained a gallery at 53 Rue la Boetie where he represented Aizpiri and other Parisian painters, such as Utrillo and Vlaminck. Paul Aizpiri was born in Paris in 1919 and entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1936. His first exhibition was held at The Gallery Parvillee in Paris in 1946. His post-expressionist style has been compared with that of Edvard Munch. His works are currently exhibited at Galerie Tamenaga in Paris. Condition: The watercolor in in very good condition with bright colors; the frame is in as-found condition with numerous chips.
