Dennis Sheehan (American, born 1950) - A Day's Work Done. Oil on linen. Size: 24 inches x 30 inches. Date: early 21st century. Unsigned, but purchased by the owner directly from the artist. Dennis Sheehan is a contemporary painter of landscapes whose work is inspired by George Inness and other 19th century tonalists. His paintings are in many public and private collections, including the White House. He attended the Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Mass. and the Vesper George School of Art in Boston. He studied under Robert Cormier and Richard Whitney and ia a member of the Guild of Boston Artists. He currently maintains a gallery in Manchester, NH (Source: American Artist, Oct. 2003). This painting portrays a farmer with his cow observing a sunset over a pastoral, marshy landscape at the end of his work day. It is offered in an Arts and Crafts style carved gilt-wood frame. Minor chips to frame and gilding.
